Saturday mojito with Lisa from Here I am Lou Lou

I first met the lovely Lisa at last year’s Problogger conference.

We enjoyed a chat for some time. I loved her exuberant spirit and easy-going personality.

We have kept in contact online since, and I am eagerly awaiting another real life opportunity to meet for a chat. Lisa’s blog, Here I am Lou Lou is all about fashion, beauty, health and pretty things. Her recent redesign rocks too by the way!

Get to know the lovely Lisa from Here I am Lou Lou

Here I am lou lou

Where did you grow up and go to school?

Initially in Northern New South Wales then we moved to Queensland when I was young.
Brisbane is where I did the rest of my schooling with further education later on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

First job you ever had?

Hmm…polishing my fathers shoes for 10 cents a pair when I was about 8.
But the first real paid job was at McDonalds and then a hairdressing salon on a Saturday morning washing hair and giving hand massages. I was paid $16 for the morning *cough!

Cheap or designer sunglasses?

Well normally designer but I have to say at the moment I have a $40 pair that I purchased in one of those shopping centre Kiosks and I love them – they’ve been one of the best pairs I have owned J

Who is your biggest girl crush? Boy crush?

Girl Crush: I’ve loved Michelle Pfeiffer for a long time (and have always loved Audrey Hepburn).
Boy Crush: Oh that’s hard… I must be a bit lusty, I have too many.
Actually, shhh.. don’t tell, but my real life Pool service man that comes once a month to service our pool is divine- seriously! (he he…) and yes.. my husband knows J

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

Mission Beach – after many years of being engaged we organised a wedding in 6 weeks when we finally put our minds to it (go figure)!
When we went to book for Thailand (where we had travelled before) – everything was booked out and flights too as it was school holidays.
We had a lovely time none the less.

If we were to meet for a drink, what drink could I buy you?

Great question!  I’m not a huge drinker but love good Champagne, a Scotch and Dry, Vodka – lots of lime and soda and I love a Skinnygirl Margarita or Cosmo.  (not all at once Caz J)

Dream shopping spree destination?

Paris of course, New York, and I loved St Tropez so much I went back twice.
Give me the relaxed look of the Cote D’Azur and I am in love – Yacht anyone?

Any phobias?

Snakes and dying!  I am not ready for either to enter my life.

Your favourite singer or band to see live?

Robbie Williams and Michael Buble’ were amazing to see. (Yes- have seen both and agree- Caz)

Coffee and cake…OR…wine and cheese?

Decaf coffee and a biscuit though I prefer a lovely old fashioned tea in a pretty china cup.
Oh god – now your being cruel, my lips love the wine and cheese but my hips don’t!

Most annoying habit of your husband?

Selective hearing… sometimes 🙂

Kisses OR Cuddles?

Depends who from of course, but I will never forget my husbands and my first kiss, it was magical.

Pet Peeves?

Rude people, lies, arrogance, ignorance, hurtful, short memories and of course bad drivers.

If I came to your house for dinner, what is your signature dish?

I have a few – I love cooking and feeding others.
In winter I would serve some slow cooked marinated Lamb Shanks with a tray of garlic & herb roasted mixed vegetables (thanks to Jamie Oliver).
In summer I would serve anything from a casual barbecue (love our Weber) and a variety of my salads or Fresh Seafood!  (Caz your chair is waiting 🙂 I’m a comin’ -Caz)

What is your idea of a romantic evening?

It’s a bit sad to say I haven’t had a true romantic evening in a while – Yes I know I better get cracking.
Basically the company of my husband and it could be as lazy as a chill out on the couch together with a movie or a lovely meal by the salt water is my ideal time together.
But you know – even Fish and Chips by the salt water is divine.

Any hidden talents?

I can fish just about anywhere, rig up my own rod or line, rig up a crab dilly or crab pot, catch them and clean them.
I once showed an ex boyfriend who was gob-smacked at what I did when we went crabbing and even manoeuvring the dinghy.

What would you like to change about yourself?

Love myself more.

The best relationship advice that you have ever gotten?

Don’t “hang your hat up to anyone”, be choosey, there is no rush & there is plenty of fish in the sea.  (Erm.. and yes if you’re wondering I married late).
And I have always loved the line from Kenny Rogers ‘The Gambler’ – “you’ve got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them, know when to walk away, know when to run”.

What quote motivates or inspires you the most?

Oh Caz, I’m a quote sponge – I cannot get enough of anything motivational and life aligning (I think I say in my blog bio – “anything motivational is my drug”).
But this one I have loved for the longest time:
“When someone shows you who they are; believe them” ~ Maya Angelou
and;
“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

Currently reading?

“The Laptop Millionaire” on my iPad & “Losing my Virginity” (again), and always lots and lots of blogs 🙂

Your favourite travel destination?

Most places with water relax me the most. I grew up with boats in my family and I have a fascination with yachting.  So I need to learn how to sail one day.

What does happiness mean to you?

Finding stillness and peace in what you are doing right at that moment – in the moment – not wishing for the “one day”. I think the “one day” is a big mistake.

What is the biggest advice you would give to your 21-year-old self?

Great question!
Don’t rush – Don’t try to take on too much, Slow down & Travel more.

What movie always makes you cry?

Terms of Endearment and Forrest Gump, but then again I’ll cry in a lot of movies and if you’re crying, I’ll start crying!

Name of the first person you kissed and where were you?

Oh god – lets forget that one!

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?

I wished I was a professional singer and dancer…ummm… that’s not going to happen, so I guess dancing any opportunity I can get at home and singing (poorly) out loud anywhere keeps me happy.
I made my husband laugh last month as I attempted “Bollywood” – I thought I did pretty well, though he said “oh god”!

Favourite makeup or skin care products?

I was advised by a business coach years ago when I had my own skincare brand – don’t ever go into manufacturing make-up, people never stick to one brand!
That is so true – I have a variety but I mostly use Mineral Make-up, I love Inspire and I.d. Bare Minerals.
Skincare – AHA based professional skin care and then mostly natural and chemical free aromatherapy skin care.
I still blend a lot of my own products but I love Antipodes & Simplicite’.

What posters were on your wall growing up?

Bay City Rollers, Abba (although my brother loved Abba so I think I tagged on) & Happy Days.
Oh wait a minute – there was a Leif Garrett too!

Describe yourself in three words?

Giving, loving, driven & very private. (oops that’s four).

What will you be doing 2 years from now?

Living at a beachside town in my dream beach house!
Still being a great mother and wife, sister, daughter and friend.
Playing golf and I want to learn to surf or stand up paddleboard.
Blogging full time monetized.
Close to friends and family.
Happy, Healthy and fit.
